Flip-up padding panel

A section through the climbing wall. Drag the panel through its travel and watch the cable length change. The anchor height is the whole ballgame: park it too low and reeling the winch in lengthens the cable path, so the panel never leaves the floor.

Wall modelled at a 5° overhang, 13 ft high. Because the wall leans out over the floor, the panel comes to rest at 85° — short of vertical — so it never passes over-centre. Gravity is always trying to swing it back open, which means the cable and its brake carry the load the entire time the panel is up. Geometry only. Anchor loads, cable sizing, and a positive latch are for a rigger to specify.
